An outstanding city of cultural events, with its theatre festival (http://www.festival-avignon.com/), the largest of its kind in the world by number of productions and audience size, held every summer in July, Avignon also has the appeal of a Mediterranean climate.
Dancing in Avignon, whether on the bridge of the song or not, is often in the sunshine. It is therefore no accident that the University of Avignon and the Vaucluse (http://www.univ-avignon.fr/) now welcomes more than 7,500 students in some of France’s most attractive university buildings.
Those university buildings are split across two campuses, one in the city centre (Sainte-Marthe site) focused on humanities and the faculty of science, the other at the Agroparc, on the outskirts of Avignon, focused on agricultural science and technology.
The University has four faculties, a University Institute of Technology (IUT, with 4 departments - Sales and marketing techniques, Biological engineering, Packaging and conditioning engineering, and Statistics and data processing) and the Centre for Education and Research in Computer Science (CERI, previously IUP).
By virtue of its outstanding location in the centre of the Vaucluse, where the main north-south and east-west communication routes intersect, the “City of the Popes” offers the possibility of getting away into the Alpilles, to Baux-de-Provence (http://www.lesbauxdeprovence.com/fr) or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (http://www.saintremy-de-provence.com/), scaling Mont Ventoux or heading down to the Camargue to enjoy the Mediterranean.
The hall is less than 10 minutes walk from my school, and in the centre of Avignon. The perfect location!
